BENGALURU: While the arrest of three suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives has lifted a weight off the shoulders of the city police, they are also expecting a breakthrough in the Church Street blast very soon. It is revealed that the police have verified more than 80 lakh phone numbers as part of the probe.

Sources said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed to crack the case had gathered several bits of crucial information after visiting various states.

“It has been a laborious process to investigate the case and to zero in on suspects. We can say that we are close to arresting those who are behind the blast,” an officer said.

“We are in constant touch with the central intelligence agencies and NIA, who are helping us in the probe. We have started getting the leads about the attackers and we hope that the case will be cracked soon,” the officer said.

“The phone numbers of those who had come from other states before the blast and who had left to other states after the blast, the numbers of those who were present during the blast on Church Street and surrounding areas, phone numbers of several suspects, all together over 80 lakh phone numbers have been verified.

From the analysis done on phone numbers and the footage recorded by various CCTV cameras, we have made a shortlist of suspects,” the officer explained.
