Govt’s next big move: Quota in outsourcing industry

Bengaluru: The Siddaramaiah government is considering introducing reservation in the outsourcing industry with an eye on its Ahinda votebank, according to official sources.

Confirming that such reservation was on the cards, social welfare minister, H. Anjaneya, however told the Deccan Chronicle that discussions were still at a preliminary stage.

The  government reportedly feels it can introduce such reservation because it gives financial assistance to the outsourcing industry, that provides services to  several of its departments and city corporations.

It could in fact come out with a comprehensive policy on reservations in this sector, according to sources in the state secretariat.

A bill on  reservations in the outsourcing industry was supposed to have been introduced in the winter session of  the state legislature in Belagavi, but was dropped,  they reveal.

Should it become a reality now, the government could insist on outsourcing companies falling in line with its reservation before  they signed any agreement to provide their services to its departments, say sources.
