Telangana, Andhra Pradesh fight for Nagarjunasagar dam water again
Telangana & AP separately have requisitioned KRMB that they want entire 90 TMC ft
Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB), the apex body constituted for the purpose of distribution of waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, doesn’t seem to have a clue on how to end the fresh controversy over utilisation of available water at the Nagarjunasagar Dam claimed by both states.
Both Telangana State and Andhra Pradesh separately have requisitioned to KRMB that they want almost the entire 90 TMC ft of water available at Nagarjunasagar to meet their late Kharif and Rabi crop requirements. Meeting the requirement of both states, given the limited live storage available at the dam, is impossible.
KRMB chairman S.K.G. Pandit told this newspaper on Tuesday evening, “We are studying the issue but we haven’t arrived at a decision, it is going to be a difficult situation for us.”
Both states want water from the Nagarjunasagar Dam for the ongoing late Kharif crop as well as for the ensuing Rabi crop in the Nagarjunasagar Left Canal, Alimineti Madhavareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (Telangana), Krishna Delta, Nagarjunasagar Right Canal (Andhra Pradesh).
