Hyderabad: A strong rumour doing the rounds is that actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi is set to join the BJP soon. According to a source, when the BJP sent feelers, the actor agreed to join the party. A few indications seem to say that there is truth in the rumours.

Chiranjeevi’s brother Pawan Kalyan, who is a supporter of BJP, recently praised his brother during film events and even in an interview. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu too praised Chiranjeevi at a function recently. “The BJP wants a popular figure to lead the party in both the Telugu states, especially in Andhra Pradesh, to strengthen it’s base. That’s why it is wooing Chiranjeevi,” says a source.

Also, Chiranjeevi has nothing to do with the Congress currently as his party is taking its time to recover in Andhra Pradesh. All these factors do seem to indicate that the actor is planning to join the BJP. The actor had floated the Praja Rajyam party in 2008 and then merged his party with the Congress party in 2010 with eight elected MLAs. He may deny the rumour, but sources say the actor has never been forthright/upfront about his moves.
