Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Friday that three more MLAs from opposition parties, including Soyam Venkateswarulu from Khammam, would be joining the TRS soon. Also, 20 corporators from the city would be joining the party, he said.

“You don’t have to be worried about new faces joining. You will get your due. Moreover, after delimitation, the number of Assembly segments will increase from the present 119,” the CM said in a party meeting.

Buoyed by the success of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board elections, Rao asked ministers, leaders and cadre in the GHMC area to gear up for GHMC elections, which will be held after completion of delimitation.

Setting an ambitious target of 37.70 lakh party memberships in the state, the CM announced to launch the membership drive in the first week of February. Rao, whose two-year term as party president will also be completed on April 27, will be re-elected for another term, it is learnt.

In a closed-door marathon meeting with the Cabinet ministers and other party leaders, Rao is learnt to have said, “You have done an excellent job in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board. We began from the scratch and won the polls. We can win the GHMC elections too and the mayor’s post.”

TRS secretary general K. Kesava Rao and education minister A. Jagdish Reddy said the meeting focused on the membership drive, strengthening the party from the grassroots level, taking the developmental schemes to the doorsteps of people and maintaining the growth of the party.
