Hyderabad: Burglars targeted an NRI’s house at Meraj Colony under Humayunnagar police station limits and escaped with 450 grams of gold late on Saturday night. The inmates had locked the house and gone for shopping when the incident took place. The burglars broke the lock of the main door to gain entry.

Houseowner Zaheda Begum, 50, had recently returned from Melbourne while her daughter is a Dubai returnee. Both had shifted to the present house about two months ago.

Humayunnagar police said on Saturday night at 7.30 pm, both had locked the house and left to a nearby place for shopping. It was when they returned around 9 pm that they found the lock of the main door broken. When they entered the house they found things scattered around. The almirah too was open and the gold ornaments kept inside were missing.

Detective SI D. Karunakar Reddy said the burglars seems to have snooped around the locality before striking adding that a manhunt is on to find the accused.
