Sources said the police had picked up the accused based on clues from the store's CCTV but were yet to confirm the arrests.

Hyderabad: A man posing as a cop threatened a security guard at Vasundhara Jewellers in Panjagutta and made off with two rifles. The fire arms were said to be countrymade but licenced.

Police said that at 8.30 pm on Thursday, an unidentified person approached the guard, Bishal Singh Pandey, at the jewellery outlet in Dwarakapur.

The man claimed to be a SI with the Narayanguda police, inquired about the shop’s gunman, B.N. Pandey.

When Bishal replied that he was on leave, the man asked the guard to hand over the rifles.

“Bishal first refused to do so and called Pandey. The man began threatening him with dire consequences. Bishal got scared and handed over the weapons,” said the ploice official.

Learning of it, the shop owners rushed to the Narayanguda police station and found that they had been cheated.  Sources said the police had picked up the accused based on clues from the store’s CCTV but were yet to confirm the arrests.
