Cyberabad cop found dead after drinking toddy in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A sub inspector of police from Cyberabad was found dead in front of a toddy shop under suspicious circumstances in Raidurgam on Tuesday afternoon.
V. Ramulu, 53, suspected to have consumed toddy was walking out of the shop when he suddenly collapsed and died.
The incident occurred around at 1.30 pm at a Dargah in Raidurgam. Locals found him lying outside the toddy shop.
“We found him lying unconscious and informed the local police. Some people identified him as a police officer before the cops arrived,” said a local from Raidurgam. He was wearing civil clothes at the time.
Ramulu, a resident of Rajendranagar, was one of the in-charge sub-inspectors at Cyberabad police control room and was on duty at the time of his death.
Police officials who inspected the body found no injury marks on his body. Raidurgam police is yet to confirm the cause of death. Police questioned the toddy shop owner and sent samples of toddy for forensic examination.
Ramulu had taken permission from the local ACP to go out on some work while on duty. Police suspect that he had gone to the toddy shop to drink.
“We have sent the body for postmortem examination, after which the doctor can reveal the real reason,” said Raidurgam inspector Srikanth.
Police is also investigating his medical history with family members and colleagues. It is said he was known to drink alcohol and toddy.
Raidurgam police has booked a case under CrPC Section 174 for suspicious death. If it is found that the toddy caused the death, the owner of shop will be booked.
