New Delhi: In some good news for the country, India’s tiger population has risen to 2,226 in 2014 — a 30 per cent increase since the last count in 2010. Minister of state for environment and forests Prakash Javadekar was quick to say, on Tuesday, that India was willing to donate tiger cubs to the international community and play a key role in global efforts to conserve the endangered species. Ironically, the tiger population is actually falling across the world. Officials of the National Tiger Conservation Authority said in countries like Cambodia and Laos tigers had become virtually extinct.
