Bank discontinues Windows Phone app for lack of users

Microsoft has started being more active on its Windows Phone OS, the mobile operating system, after the takeover of Nokia. However, it seems that users prefer the rival platforms for their mobile devices.  A report on Softpedia stared that one of the biggest banks in the United States has dropped their banking app from the Windows Store.

The report mentions that Chase Bank, one of the biggest banks in the United States, has sent out an email to its customers that it has pulled down the Windows Phone banking app from the store, citing lack of sufficient users.

The bank stated that there are very few users who own a Windows Phone and who are using their banking app and has decided to discontinue the existing app for the Windows Phone platform. The bank had launched the app in 2012 and the last update was seen in August 2014.

The decision for taking down the app from the store and discontinuing the Windows Phone-based app is a setback for existing users who are using the app. However, the bank stated that the users won’t be much affected as they can continue using similar services using the phone’s browser. Android and iOS users are unaffected as the service for the two mobile platforms will remain active.

If the same reasons are taken up by other banks, in the US or across the world, then this could also be a big blow to the Redmond-based Windows tech giant, Microsoft.
