Hyderabad: The Shamshabad police has got 10-day custody of US returnee Salman Mohiuddin to interrogate him over his alleged plans to join the Islamic State. Salman was picked up while he was leaving for Dubai, from where he was allegedly going to Syria to join the Islamic State.
“The court has granted his custody for 10 days and he will be brought from Cherlapally Jail on Thursday,” said DCP A.R. Srinivas. Police sources said Salman was in contact with two people from Turkey and Syria, who had IS links. In a conversation over social media, they promised to facilitate his entry into the IS, investigation officials said.
“He was in touch with a person named Abu al Barra al Sami from Syria and Abu Mohammed from Turkey. They communicated over FB and had discussions about IS activities. Salman also showed an interest in joining the IS, and they agreed to help him,” said an official.
He downloaded IS training videos and burnt it into a CD, which the police recovered from him. “His main intention was to join militant training. He had downloaded Jihadi speeches,” said the official.
He was planning to leave from Dubai with his girlfriend Ayesha alias Nicky Joseph and cross into Turkey illegally to fight Syrian forces. He was also planning to come back and work in India.
