Woman behind Arrah blast hailed from Uttar Pradesh
Two people were killed and 16 others were injured in the blast
Arrah: The woman, who carried the bomb, which exploded in Arrah civil court premises, has been identified as a native of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
The bomb exploded on Friday resulting in the death of the woman and 26-year-old police constable Amit Kumar besides leaving about 16 others injured. Kumar had recently got married.
"The woman has been identified as Reena Gaur, who hailed from Balia in Uttar Pradesh," Superintendent of Police of Bhojpur Akhtar Hussain said.
Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi asked the officials to focus on state security. Terming his own officials careless and negligent he said the incident must be treated as a challenge.
“The criminals succeeded in their plans to escape from a high security area. The officials must learn a lesson from this incident”, Manjhi said.
Two prisoners -- Lambu Sharma and Akhilesh Upadhyay -- managed to flee after the explosion. The remaining 35 undertrials in the van were taken back to prison.
The SP said it had come to light that the woman was carrying bomb in her purse to help Lambu Sharma, who was recently awarded life sentence in a case.
Lambu Sharma gangmen had made similar attempts by exploding bombs in the Arrah civil court premises in 2009 also in which two persons were killed, he said.
The SP said a SIT (Special Investigation Team) has been constituted under Sub Divisional Police Officer of Sadar to probe the blast incident.
Meanwhile, lawyers suspect it may be an act of terrorism.
“What police and administration is trying to portray is completely false. They are trying to establish that the incident was carried out in order to help prisoners escape but reality could be something else. As the Republic Day is approaching they must investigate the incident from an angle of terrorism”, a lawyer said.
