Hyderabad: Another person died on Friday of suspected swine flu, while 50 fresh cases have been tested positive. Of the new cases, three are city doctors.

The number of swine flu-related deaths has risen to 21 (excluding Friday’s death), though the official figure is 20. The total number of positive swine flu cases has risen to 299 in the state this year.

Authorities, meanwhile, did not confirm Friday’s death as swine flu-related and said that they were waiting for the reports.
Among the three doctors who tested positive on Friday, one is a 25-year-old woman while the other two are 30 and 35 years old.

According to official figures, more than 800 samples have been sent for tests to IPM this month of which 299 cases tested confirmed to be of swine flu. Last year, 865 suspected samples had been sent for tests.

The total count since the pandemic of 2009 runs up to 10,975 samples.
Sources said that Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts were the worst affected this year with 142 and 60 cases of swine flu reported from these two districts.

The swine flu has reportedly cost the job of one more official in the health department. Dr Sampath, an officer on special duty with the health minister, has reportedly been asked to go. However, Suresh Chanda, the principal secretary to the health, medical and family welfare department, said no orders have been issued for the removal of Dr Sampath.
