Poetry aided Telangana movement
Poem by Suraram Shankar, recited at the event reflected the spirit of Hyderabad Literary Festival
Hyderabad: Piercing through your unethical vision/ Layered with your venomous hood/Also shattering your inflated arrogance, fattened by colonial capitalist machinations/ I shall protect my Telangana!”
An excerpt from Liberation Struggle, a poem by Suraram Shankar, recited by eminent translator K. Damodar Rao at “A Celebration of Telangana Poetry” reflected the spirit of the event held at the Hyderabad Literary Festival where the past, present and future of Telangana poetry was discussed at length on Sunday.
“The Telangana movement broke a few myths and proved that regionalism was not parochial and that non-violent peaceful struggle was far superior to power exerted by force,” said Mr Damodar Rao at the event.
