Honour killing? Teenage girl killed by parents in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: In a suspected case of honour killing, a teenage girl was allegedly killed by her parents in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district over her affair with a boy of another caste, police said on Friday.

The alleged incident took place on January 17 but came to light on January 26 after a police team found a highly decomposed body near hillock area near Kothaveerapalli village under Panjani police station limits, Panjani police station SHO Lokesh said.

He said the girl's parents allegedly killed her by strangulating and had put a boulder on her in the hillocks but later approached the police claiming that their daughter has gone missing.

The 16-year-old girl, a first-year intermediate student was in love with a 20-year-old boy belonging to different caste, the officer said, adding, her father Sriramulu had warned her not to interact with the boy, she however, continued.

On January 16, Sriramulu saw her daughter and the boy and later had an altercation with the boy, following which he and his wife, Parvathamma on the pretext of taking their daughter to a temple took her to hillock area and killed her, he said.

On January 26, a police team found a highly decomposed body of a teenaged girl and during course of investigation, questioned her parents and villagers.

The SHO said during interrogation, her parents confessed to the crime.

The couple was arrested yesterday on charge of murder and were today remanded to judicial custody, police said.
