Hyderabad: Postings as inspector, assistant commissioner of police and deputy commissioners of police in Hyderabad and Cyberabad are very much in demand. The large number of recommendations from politicians is a source of big worry to the police brass.
Sources in the police department said that at least 35 recommendations are pending for the five inspector posts in the Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force. The recommendations are made by ministers, MPs and MLAs. Transferring staff has become a big headache for top cops as it is politically sensitive.
A top police official said, “Political interference is not new. However, it has increased and recently for prime posts in Madhapur, Panjagutta etc there is too much demand. The Hyderabad Task Force and SOT of Cyberabad is also in demand.”
In certain cases efficient inspectors and ACPs are shifted within a few months and they are shunted out to accommodate cops recommended by politicians. “For effective policing we need sincere and efficient cops. For example in a range in Telangana all the 35 inspectors transferred recently were moved due to political reasons. The IPS officials who are supervising them have no say in this,” said a police official.
