WhatsApp begins testing free ‘voice calling’ feature on Android handsets
The voice calling feature will be accessible on the 2.11.508 version of WhatsApp
It seems like WhatsApp is in a full spree to surprise its users with new features this year! After launching the WhatsApp web version, media reports state that WhatsApp has already started testing the voice calling feature only on selected numbers.
A report in Mobiletor.com stated that the newly launched voice calling feature will only be accessible on the 2.11.508 version of WhatsApp and will be restricted to Android users only. pradnesh07, a registered reddit user reportedly received an updated version of WhatsApp which allowed access to free voice calls.

According to pradnesh07, one needs to download the APK file from the WhatsApp’s website. Giving out a description about the interface, the post also mentioned, ‘It’s like an invite thing, where a person with the call feature needs to "call" another person who wants to start using the feature’.

As shown in the above image, WhatsApp will add three tabs - calls, chats, and contacts. The call interface seems to be similar to your handset’s contact directory and also simple. It keeps a record of your recent WhatsApp calls and also shows the name and WhatsApp image of the person you are calling.

There hasn’t been any official announcement about the voice calling feature yet, as it is still in its testing phase. The immediate release of the voice calling feature can create a tough competition between Hike and WhatsApp.
