91 juvenile detainees flee Meerut remand home, 17 re-arrested

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Ninety- one children escaped from a juvenile reform home in Meerut in wee hours of Monday morning. The children reportedly made a rope from cloth and jumped from the home's kitchen wall at 3 am.
A search operation was launched, in which 17 children have been re-arrested. District Police Officer (DPO) Yatendra Singh said that the kitchen wall was not guarded by any police official since it was quite high.
"We are checking across the city and in all police districts. So far, 17 children have been arrested again and we hope that rest of the children would be nabbed soon. The police will gauge security lapses," said Singh.
At present, 185 children are in remand, of which 56 have been shifted to Bulandshahr and some more were about to be shifted in Ghaziabad.
