Centre soon for smart cities
Concept has caught on ever since the Centre decided to develop several Indian cities as smart cities
Tada (Nellore): Indian Institute of Information Technology, Sri City, will soon start a research centre for Smart Cities. The smart city concept has caught on ever since the Centre decided to develop several Indian cities as smart cities. Apart from Central government’s proposal, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for smart cities, towns, villages and wards in the state.
A research centre to come up on the IIIT-Sri City, will study facilities needed for developing smart cities.
According to IIIT-Sri City, professor Vinay Kumar Mittal, the institute will collaborate with experts and faculty from IIIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Madras, IIIT, Bengaluru, ISB and other premier institutions. Prof. Mittal said that the centre will help Sri City in managing water and power resources efficiently besides balancing the city’s ecosystem.
The centre will deal with Internet of Things (IoT), basic amenities in smart cities with better environment and social structures. Students of IIIT-Sri City, will also take part in the research activity. This will help them familiarise themselves with the smart city concept and its requirements.
