A new annual review report released by Google has said that the company banned more than 214,000 advertisers and disabled nearly 500 million bad ads in 2014. The number is a sliver of the total traffic on AdWords but active investigation is an important step towards maintaining the system's reputation, reported The Verge.

The review report mentioned a scam that hit the internet with this summer's Ebola outbreak and offered discredited treatments for the disease. However, they were easily removed after they had been identified as AdWords has a blanket policy against misleading claims.

Bad ads are usually flagged through algorithms and then investigated in-person.
