Hyderabad: A man from Prakasam district pretended to be the director-general of Doordarshan and allegedly cheated job aspirants by offering them posts at the DD office at Ramanthapur. He also took lakhs from the victims. The accused, Bylla Vinod Kumar, 34, morphed a group photograph of AP Chief Minister Chand-rababu Naidu and other government officials and replaced an official's face with his to convince the victims that he is close to VIPs.

He prepared fake appointment letters, identity cards, canteen cards and air tickets to go to the DD's head office at New Delhi. When the victims went to the Ramanthapur DD office they came to know that they had been cheated. The Special Operation Team of Cyberabad arrested Vinod after a complaint from the victims. Vinod Kumar, who is a resident of Suryodaya Colony in LB Nagar, met one of the victims online and trapped the other three through him.

“He interacted with the victims through the email ID doordarshan.newdelhi99@gmail.com and convinced them that he is the head of Doordarshan. He also contacted them over the phone and told them that the notification for the posts were published in newspapers," said Cyberabad Special Operation Team chief E. Ramachandra Reddy.

Believing him the victims, Kondal Reddy paid '8 lakh, his wife B. Nirosha paid Rs3 lakh, his friend Venkateshwar Reddy paid Rs3 lakh and the fourth victim V. Shashi Rekha of Medipally paid half a lakh.“The victims were promised clerical jobs. They were asked to go to New Delhi and report at the head office. But, they got suspicious later and checked with Ramanth-apur office. Then they found that they have been duped,” said inspector V. Umender.
