Well-equipped checkposts, properly manned, would help the government increase tax, say experts
Hyderabad: While sales tax evasion on goods imported from other states has been a major reason for crores of losses to the state exchequer, the state government also needs to equip the department properly. “The enforcement staff needs to be equipped to use Information Technology (IT) to scan the goods carried by these trucks. The scanners would also help in identifying bar codes issued by the department at the other checkpost,” said an official with the CT department.
“One of the key reasons for the thriving interstate black market is lack of proper checks and enforcement. Well equipped check posts, properly manned, would help the government increase tax, say experts.
It is very essential to have a well-equipped CT check posts with backed up data in order to check illegal activities, besides weigh bridges. Presently, the nine interstate commercial tax check posts at state border, which have come up post bifurcation, are running at the mercy of local dhabas.
