Patna: Amid the speculation of change of guard in Bihar, instead of removing Jitan Ram Manjhi as the Chief Minister, senior JD(U) leaders have understood to have advised him to voluntarily step down.

The move was initiated by the senior leaders to avoid head on collision between Mr Manji and his predecessor Nitish Kumar the two leaders Nitish Kumar. However, sources said, the Chief Minister, who met JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav on Wednesday, refused to resign and instead reportedly asked party to sack him.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav are in favour of Nitish Kumar taking over as the Chief Minister of Bihar again.

“We are discussing the merger issue and it will soon be announced by Mulayam Singh Yadav as only he is authorized to do so, ” Sharad Yadav said in Patna on Thursday.

The JD(U) leaders have, however, refuted reports of any pressure from RJD and Samajwadi Party.

“These reports are not true. Removing or retaining him is not on our agenda,” JD(U) national president Sharad Yadav said in Thursday.

Political analyst and former JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwary said sacking Mr Manjhi would not be easy at this juncture. “Sacking Mr Manjhi would not be easy for JD(U) as it may lead to further differences within the party and will also angry the Maha Dalit community, ” he said.
