Twitter to introduce logged-out timeline and other new features soon
Twitter will also insert promoted tweets in those logged-out timelines
In a bid to woo internet surfers to join its shrinking user-base, Twitter is planning to introduce a host of new features including, a logged-out timeline, promoted tweets, an instant timeline for new users and a new video tool for sharing 30-second clips. The network added just four million users in the fourth quarter despite efforts to make signing up and using the service easier than ever, reported The Verge.
In an attempt to woo logged-out users who just navigate to Twitter.com, the firm is working on a timeline that will employ a combination of algorithms and curation to display a fully featured feed to hook logged-out users. After the bugs have been worked out, Twitter will also insert promoted tweets in those logged-out timelines. The platform is also testing an instant timeline for brand-new users, the report said.
Other plans to entice users include a native video tool for shooting and sharing 30-second-long clips and a "while you were away" update at the top of the timeline.
Twitter said that it was too early to predict how successful those new features have been but added that an increase in the number of user was recorded in January. The network expects to see 13-16 million new monthly actives in the first quarter of this year.
