Gang trying to sell '10 lakh USD currency note' lands in police net in Coimbatore

The group tried fooling sellers by producing ‘authentication letters’ from the US govt

Coimbatore: A five-member gang, including a woman, was picked up for questioning by the police after they claimed to possess a 10 lakh USD currency note worth Rs 6 crore. The gang had offered to sell it for Rs 3 crore.

Police said the five from Vaniyambadi in Vellore District had approached a youth here offering to "sell" the 'high denomination' US currency.

The youth, after consulting a lawyer, asked them to meet him to discuss the offer.

The gang came to the office of the lawyer and produced the currency and some coins along with an authentication letter, purportedly by the Government of America validating the currency.

Growing suspicious, the lawyer alerted the police, who took possession of the currency for verificaton and the gang members for interrogation, police said.
