New Delhi: The exit poll results of the Delhi elections showed a resounding victory for Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP.

The exit poll conducted by Cicero projected that the AAP will win 38-46 seats, the BJP 19-27 and the Congress 3-5.

Another poll conducted by News Nation said the AAP would bag 41-45 seats, the BJP 23-27 and the Congress 1-3 seats.

Another poll by Nielsen projected 43 seats for the AAP, 26 for the BJP and just one for the Congress.

The exit polls evoked responses on expected lines from political parties. While the AAP welcomed the exit polls and predicted that the party will have a landslide win in the national capital, the BJP was cautious, saying exit polls have failed to predict the right results in the past.

“The trends show we are heading for a landslide victory,” an upbeat Yogendra Yadav of AAP said.

That the BJP was nervous was evident when senior leader Ananth Kumar, during a hurriedly-convened press conference, punched ho-les in the exit polls, saying the party and its cadre are sure of a comfortable majority for the party. “We don’t subscribe to the exit polls... we are confident that Delhi will have a BJP government,” Mr Kumar said.

BJP’s CM candidate Kiran Bedi debunked the exit polls, but said she will take responsibility for the performance.
