For phone users challenged by the default English language interfaces, Bangalore-based Reverie Language Technologies offers Swalekh, a free Android app that supports 10 languages - Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu (and English).
Users can type using the native language characters on the keyboard. In the phonetic mode, they can type in English script -- and the text is converted into their chosen language. In the macaronic mode, users can mix-n-match English and Indian languages in the same message.
