Chennai: Protesting against the alleged blasphemous remarks of controversial IAS officer C Umashankar against Prophet Mohammed and Koran, a Muslim organisation on Tuesday staged demonstration seeking his dismissal. Tamil Nadu Thouheet Jamaath (TNTJ) staged a protest outside the Chennai Collectorate here seeking his dismissal.
Secretary of TNTJ North Chennai, Mohammad Sultan, alleged that Umashankar had made 'blasphemous' remarks against Prophet Mohammed and Koran and that videos in this regard were available online.
Umashankar, being a public servant and common to all, making such remarks were not proper, Sultan remarked, adding, therefore the protest was held seeking his dismissal from service. About 4,000 persons attended the protest.
Meanwhile, TNTJ offerd a sum of Rs 1 crore to those persons, including Umashankar, who claim that divine intervention could even address health issues like hearing impairment and visual handicap.
Challenging such persons including Umanshankar, Sultan said that they would bring a corpse and one would pay Rs 1 crore to those who could bring it to life with divine intervention.
The intention was to create awareness among people, he said.
A controversial officer who was earlier charged with producing fake community certificate to obtain job quota, Umashankar was recently asked by the Tamil Nadu government not to indulge in "preaching and propagating" activities.
