TRS scrambles to boost party membership in Telangana
Telugu Desam and BJP launched the membership drive earlier
Hyderabad: The ruling TRS leadership is in an upbeat mood over the scramble for party membership across the state not withstanding one-upmanship issues in some places. TRS steering committee convener Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said there was an unprecedented rush and the party membership will touch 40 lakh while other parties too have intensified drive.
TRS has a 37.50 lakh target, BJP, 35 lakh, Congress, 25 lakh, and Telugu Desam, 10 lakh, have launched a major membership across the state. TRS launched the membership drive on February 3 while other parties like Congress, Telugu Desam and BJP launched the membership drive earlier.
“We have completed 5.5 lakh memberships so far and the drive is still on,” said Rajeshwar Reddy. While TD leaders claimed they completed the target, Telangana BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy said the party enrolled 16 lakh members including five lakh mobile memberships out of the target of 35 lakh. Party inductees are quite high in rural areas in view of the several welfare measures including old age, widow, handicapped pensions, proposed two-bedroom housing scheme and other sops.
