AAP offers LoP post to BJP in Delhi Assembly
BJP finished with 3 seats, four short of the 10% mark required for LOP status
New Delhi: Despite the BJP winning only three seats, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday made a grand gesture by saying that it will offer the Leader of the Opposition post to the saffron party.
AAP leader Kumar Vishwas tweeted, “Even if BJP gets less than 7 seats, we will give LOP to BJP.” Viswas said, “Loktantra sweekar se chalta hai (democracy is run by consensus).”
The BJP finished with a paltry three seats, four short of the 10 per cent mark that it needs in the 70-member Delhi Assembly to qualify for the post of Leader of the Opposition.
The post is crucial as it is a part of some of the important committees and plays a decisive role in the day to day functioning of the Assembly.
Incidentally, the BJP denied the Congress the status of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha after the party could not bag 10 per cent of the seats in the Lower House.
