Hyderabad: A three-hour stoppage of railway traffic on Tuesdays and Saturdays will be taken up for Metro overbridge works at eight locations in the city. Overbridge work at Bharatnagar was taken up on Wednesday.  However, stopping train traffic for three hours per block will be a huge task for the SCR.

P.K. Srivastava, general manager of SCR said, “Freight traffic on this route has increased by about 20 per cent. It is a big challenge to meticulously plan rail blocks. Due care will have to be taken to avoid passenger inconvenience. This is going to be a very big task for SCR as it holds the image of being passenger friendly.”

The blockages in Bharatnagar are going to last till April. The SCR will have to take special care to ensure that passengers of Pune Shatabdi Express do not face hardships as the train will be short terminated at Lingampally on specific days.

Before the works started on Wednesday, SCR had deputed officers to Pune to understand the need of the passengers and accordingly terminate it at Lingampally, said Mr Srivastava.

Metro overbridge work is a very important aspect and is going to be carried out at Lakdikapul, Malakpet, Begumpet, Alugadda Bavi, Chilkalguda, Oliphant Bridge and Bhoiguda.
Chief executive and managing director of L&T HMR V.B. Gadgil said, “The eight railway crossings have been designed keeping the future railway traffic in mind. If in future the railways want to run double decker trains then these overbridges must not come in the way, hence they have been planned very meticulously.”
