Sanjay Dutt’s furlough period to be reduced due to delay in return
The actor delayed his return by two days in January
Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt’s furlough period will most likely be cut short as the actor reportedly overstayed his 14-day furlough in December. The actor who was granted furlough in December was expected to return to Yerwada Jail on January 8. However due to health conditions the actor asked for an extension and returned to jail two days after the scheduled day.
Dutt is currently serving a sentence in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case in Yerwada central prison, Pune. As there was a delay in his return to prison, action will be taken against him. For one day, the furlough period is reduced by five days, it was reported.
In January, the Maharashtra government had also announced an inquiry last year after criticism was raised over the prompt approval of Dutt’s parole and furlough requests unlike other convicts whose applications are known to languish for months on end before being allowed. Even in his first furlough from prison which was his first leave in October 2013, Priya was the guarantor after paying a surety of Rs 15,000.
While furlough is a rightful leave granted to prisoners, a parole is given in contingency situations at home like a death or a illness in the convict’s family. The latter is counted as a part of the jail term.
