Valentine’s Day: Police ask couples to file FIRs if in danger
Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their hands in the city
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police has decided to act tough on Hindu Right-wing activists, who threaten to hinder Valentine’s Day celebrations. Adequate police forces will be deployed at various places, including at major parks, in order to curb any nuisance by the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists, said senior police officers.
They said that they will not allow anybody to take the law into their hands in the city. If anybody disturbs public peace, they will be arrested and booked. The police has asked couples to file a police complaint if they face any inconvenience from miscreants. Couples can dial 100 to alert cops if they are in danger.
The activists of the Communist Party of India approached the office of Hyderabad police commissioner Mahender Reddy against complained against the Right-wing groups, who had asked lovers not to celebrate Valentine’s Day. They lodged a petition seeking strict action against Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad activists. However, police officers say that usually the Right-wing activists indulge in ‘wedding drama’ with dummy couples and do not attack normal couples. “In the past years, all they were doing was creating a drama by fixing up weddings of their own people, or couples who are ready to wed. They know if they attack normal couples, police will take action. We hope the same happens this year. However, if they cross the limit, we will book cases and arrest them,” said a senior police official.
