Hyderabad:  Unlike previous World Cups, this year is unique considering the unprecedented access that students have to technology in terms of smartphones.

Parents and teachers are a worried lot this year as the cricket World Cup coincides with the Board exams.

Simi Nagi, principal, Pallavi Model School, said, “Classes are over, but sometimes we call students for special classes. But students don’t want to miss the matches. If the class timings are from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm, the students want us to hold the classes between 7.30 am and 9 am.”

Unlike previous World Cups, this year is unique considering the unprecedented access that students have to technology in terms of smartphones and Apps.

Priya Kumar, a resident of Sainikpuri said, “I am going to record the matches for my son. After school, the half-an-hour play time can be used to see the match highlights. Moreover, we are completely off TV, WhatsApp and Face-book for the next one month till the exams are over. The whole family is in curfew mode.”

Another parent Kavita Kotak said, “I have taken away my son’s cellphone. I give it to him only during lunch and dinner times.”
