Hyderabad: Repeat eve-teasers face criminal case
SHE teams have caught about 113 persons till now of which 56 were minors
Hyderabad: Eve teasers arrested for the second time will be booked under relevant sections of The Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, the police has warned.
Till now only petty cases were being registered and for minors it was only counselling. In some cases the accused were imprisoned for two and three days. About 100 SHE teams are active in the city and around 113 persons have been caught for eve-teasing.
With the immense positive response for SHE Teams from all sections of the public, the police has taken eve-teasing more seriously.
The punishment would be severe if an accused is booked under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, which was brought into force after the 2012 December Delhi gang rape.
SHE teams have caught about 113 persons till now of which 56 were minors. Around 57 persons were produced before court.
Among them 10 were jailed for two and three days and fines were also imposed on them.
Additional commissioner of police, (Crimes and SIT) Swati Lakra said, “Our aim is to transform the offender. Hence they are also counselled with the help of professional psychologists. Most of them have changed. They have come forward to help us in the campaign against eve-teasing too.”
Officials said the accused were booked under petty cases and sent to court. The imprisonment is for only two or three days. “If any individual is held a second time we would hand him over to the local police who would register a case under the Criminal Law Act for stalking,” Ms Swati Lakra said. “No repeat offender has been arrested till now.” she added.
