Hyderabad: The much-awaited Krishna Phase-III project that is set to bring 90 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the city, is currently in the trial run stage.

Presently, over 11.5 MGD is being run from Kodandapur in Nalgonda to Sahebnagar on the city’s outskirts. By March, over 45 MGD of water will be supplied to the city and the remaining 45 MGD will be available by June, said sources. The first beneficiaries will be the residents at Sainikpuri, Malkajgiri and Alwal area where consumers have been receiving water once in five-seven days.

There are over four pumphouse systems along the 110-km-long pipeline between Kodandapur of Nalgonda to Sahebnagar. Of these one has been made operational and 11.5 MGD of water is being pumped from here.

“The trial run involves pumping of water in three stages,” said G. Rameshwar Rao, director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board.
