Apple never fails to surprise us! Apple recently has been awarded a patent for a head mounted display system that allows users to couple an iPhone with a separate head mounted device integrating it into one unit, and use it has a VR display. Apple originally filed this patent in 2008.

Essentially, a user can slot their iPhone into a cradle that sits in front of their eyes and navigate it with the help of a remote. And the display screen of the iPhone acts as the primary display screen of the head-mounted device.

Apple’s VR display bears a lot of resemblance to Samsung’s Gear VR. Samsung uses the Galaxy Note 4 to power the VR device. However, Apple’s VR display system for now is just another patent owned by the tech giant and it may or may not be materialized into a product. Though we wish it does, nothing sounds cooler than playing iOS games on a virtual reality headset!
