In Ajay Devgn’s next film, which is a remake of the hard-hitting Malayalam film Drishyam, the actor will play the father of a grown-up daughter who decides to avenge the wrong done to her. He has apparently suspended plans to pursue the shoot of Shivaay to accommodate the Drishyam remake.
According to sources, the actor signed on the film in a bid to salvage his image after the debacle of Action Jackson. “He did some quick thinking and reshuffling of schedules to accommodate Drishyam where he portrays a more mature and protective father of two daughters,” added the source.
Director Nishikant Kamat who is currently shooting Rocky Handsome with John Abraham, says he was convinced when the producers at Viacom 18 came to him with the project. “When they showed me the original Malayalam film I was bowled over. I can visualise Ajay Devgn in Mohanlal’s role. This film will bring out a new facet of his personality.”
The Drishyam remake shooting begins this week in Kerala. “After that we go to Hyderabad and finally a 20-day shoot in Goa. The film will be released by the end of the year,” said Kamat.
Interestingly, a Tamil version of the film starring Kamal Haasan is ready for release. “I have seen the Malayalam version only. I will make changes in the script, but not too many,” promises Nishikant.
