Maratha Mandir to screen 'DDLJ' for another 10 weeks before last show

Mumbai: Just a day after news broke out that Maratha Mandir had pulled out the iconic ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ after twenty years of continuous screening, Shah Rukh-Kajol fans can breathe a sigh of relief. According to reports the film will run for another week.
The decision was taken up by the theatre’s management after viewers expressed their disappointment with the theatre’s decision to stop screening the film after 1009 weeks. The romantic comedy, which translates as "The Brave-Hearted Will Take The Bride", first began screening at Mumbai's Marathi Mandir cinema on October 20, 1995 when its star Shah Rukh Khan was still a relative unknown.
The movie went on to become one of the best-loved of all Bollywood blockbusters and matinees at the Maratha Mandir continued to attract steady audiences, with many fans coming back again and again.
According to reports the management decided to discontinue screening the film as it was becoming difficult to accommodate other films. The new releases were given only three shows which resulted in poor collections.
On public demand the film will run for one last week at the famous Maratha Mandir.
The Aditya Chopra directed film tells the tale of two expatriate Indians living in Britain who meet and fall in love on a trip to mainland Europe. After various plot twists in cities including London and Paris and a few picturesque musical numbers, the pair get together and convince their families of their union, an important factor in conservative Indian society.
