Vijayawada: Negligence of an RTC driver killed an engineering student and injured two others after it hit traffic and mob on a road at Ganguru near Vijayawada on Friday morning.
The deceased is identified as Kommukuri Rufas Steven who was a second year engineering student at a college in Paritala of Krishna district.
The APSRTC bus, which was heading towards Vijayawada from Machilipatnam lost control after it reached Ganguru and hit Steven who was riding motorcycle in the same direction, according Penamaluru inspector Jagan Mohana Rao.
The bus continued to hit other pedestrians on road, while Steven suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Steven was about to reach home after purchasing groceries.
The bus driver who is responsible for the accident is said to be blaming steering failure as the cause for losing control over bus. However, police see it as a reason claimed by driver to escape punishment. The driver who absconded from the spot was later taken into police custody.
The injured are being treated at Kankipadu hospital and are out of danger.
