Dubai: A linesman was in danger after German tennis player Andrea Petkovic threw a racket towards him after a referee’s decision went against her during the WTA Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship on Tuesday.

This shocking incident took place during her second round match against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan.

The German was trailing 5-6 in the first set with a chance to break her opponent’s serve and level the scores. After a rally that went relatively long, Diyas’ forehand went long. However, the chair umpire thought otherwise and ruled it in favour of Petkovic’s Kazaki rival. While the German shouted ‘no’ expressing her disbelief, the decision was not overturned.

Diyas levelled the scores 6-6 and bagged the first set and that’s when Petkovic lost control and angrily threw her racket in a direction of her bench which was not too far from linesman. While the racket did not hurt the linesman, he was visibly shocked.
