J&K scholar at IIT-Hyderabad ends life
Islam, hailing from Baramulla district of J&K, was pursuing PhD at IIT-Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Tariqul Islam, a 28-year-old student from Jammu and Kashmir who was studying at IIT-Hyderabad, committed suicide in the University of Hyderabad on Friday afternoon. He was found hanging from the ceiling of one of the hostel rooms. The police did not find any suicide note.
Islam, hailing from Baramulla district of J&K, was pursuing PhD at IIT-Hyderabad in Medak. He had several friends in UoH and had come to visit them a few days ago. On Friday afternoon, he told his friends that he wanted to offer namaz in one of the adjacent rooms, that was vacant. However, Islam bolted the room from the inside and hanged himself using a nylon rope.
His friends said that they did not know of any particular reason for his suicide, but claimed that he was visibly depressed. Islam also had an academic presentation at IIT-Hyderabad in the next few days.
Police did not find any suicide note with the body. Gachibowli inspector Jupelly Ramesh said, “No suicide note was found. Even his friends are clueless about the reason behind the suicide.” Islam’s father Ghulam Mohammed Dhobi has been informed. A case has been booked under Section 174 of the CrPC. The body was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital.
