Chennai: Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said it has added over 4,640 MW of power since assuming office in 2011, with schemes afoot to ensure availability of over 22,000 MW of electricity in coming years.
While various steps have ensured addition of 4,640 MW in the last four years, the state will receive an additional 2,163 MW in some months, Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said in the Assembly.
Intervening during the debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address, he said that with a slew of projects lined up, the state was on the verge of attaining self-sufficiency in power supply.
Several power generation projects, including thermal and hydel, were at various stages and the government had expedited the processes and procedures, including land acquisition, for such ventures, he said.
“Overall, steps have been taken by this government for generating 16,033 MW of thermal power, 2,607 MW of hydel power and 3,330 MW through long-term procurement and 500 MW of mid-term procurement, all totalling 22,440 MW,” he said.
