Sonam’s love for jewellery
Sonam Kapoor talks about stylish heroines of yesteryears, fashion for men and more
At a recent jewellery awards, Sonam Kapoor, looking her fashionable best, gave away the Best Artisan Award.
“I love to be associated with jewellery and the latest trends,” she says, adding, “This award is unique… even a housewife or any good artisan could submit his or her works.”
And she knows what she is talking about. Pointing out jewellery worn in films in the black and white era, she says, “I love to wear jewellery from that time. I remember Suraiyaji and other heroines from then… I have always supported ethnic jewellery.”
“My next favourite is the golden era which belonged to Waheeda Rahman. I loved her performance in Guide. Nutan’s film Saraswatichandra was another memorable film, which left a huge impression on me. Their dressing sense was so very elegant, simple and yet appealing.”
“In the 2000s’, women empowerment came to light and heroines got great roles. My favourites were Kajol and Rani Mukherjee who, with their power-packed women oriented roles, paved the path for women’s empowerment.”
Talking about what she would like to see men wear, she says, “I think a man looks sexy wearing a bali in his ears. I also like to see a man wearing a sherwani with studs. Also, a brooch in a turban looks amazing.”
Asked what she looks sexiest in, Sonam says, “I look the best when I wear a sari. I love to drape a sari for an event whenever possible,” she concludes.
