Hyderabad: The police arrested a four-member gang of receivers who accepted around 216 stolen Videocon LED TVs. The prime accused who stole the container carrying TVs from the company facility in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra is absconding. He had planned to sell the TVs in Hyderabad.
The arrested people are Shaik Humayun, 49, a scrap dealer and resident of Tadbund, and a native of Aurangabad, Syed Wasim Akram alias Akram, 28, a textile dealer and resident of Falakunuma, M.A. Ali Khan alias Ali, 23, a student and resident of Falaknuma and Mohd. Idris, 32, a technician and resident of Bandlaguda. The absconders are Amer, the prime accused and Sheru, a resident of Yadgir in Karnataka.
Police said that Syed Wasim Akram was a friend of Ali Khan and Shaik Humayun. In September 2014 Amer stole a container truck carrying TVs parked at the Videocon factory in Aurangabad. He asked Humayun to sell it. Meanwhile, the company lodged a complaint with the police.
Shaik Humayun informed Syed Wasim Akram and Ali Khan that his relative Amer had stolen the loaded truck and had brought it to Hyderabad. The TVs were kept in a godown at Falaknuma and were being sold at low prices.
“The gang purchased the stolen TVs by paying Rs 4.5 lakh as advance to Shaik Humayun. 417 TVs and two compressors were handed over to Wasim Akram and Ali Khan,” said DCP B. Limba Reddy.
He said Wasim Akram and Ali Khan created fake bills in the name of Humayun Electronics and started selling TVs with the help of Mohd. Idria. They gave 173 LED TVs to one Sheru.
Following an alert the culprits were nabbed. About 216 TVs and cell phones worth Rs 30 lakh were seized. The arrested people and the seized material were handed over to the Aurangabad police.
