BENGALURU: Rs 40 lakh in cash belonging to a businessman was stolen from his car in Mahalakshmi Layout police station limits on Friday night. The police are suspecting the role of a cashier and a gunman, who were present at the car when the incident took place.
The cash belonged to Srinivas Gupta, a resident of Basavanagudi. He owns a wholesale grain shop in RMC Yard and several other outlets in the city. According to the police, Gupta had appointed a cashier and a gunman to collect the daily collection from all his outlets everyday.
The incident happened when the cashier, along with the gunman, were heading towards Gupta’s house after collecting cash. When the car reached Mahalakshmi Layout, two men on a bike alerted the driver about a punctured tyre.
“The driver stopped the car and found that the tyre was punctured. When he checked the spare tyre, that too was punctured. He took the tyre and went in search of a puncture shop. By that time, the two men of bike had left. After the driver left, the cashier and gunman got down from the vehicle and got busy speaking over their mobile phones. After about 15 minutes the cashier found the cash bag missing. They immediately informed Gupta about the incident and he filed a complaint,” the police said.
“They are claiming that they do not have any idea how the bag went missing. Also, they claim that they are not sure whether the two men, who alerted about the puncture, took away the bag. It’s hard to believe their version and we are questioning both in connection with the incident,” the police added. Mahalakshmi Layout police have registered a case.
