WhatsApp voice calling feature appears on Android handsets for few hours

Voice calling, the most-awaited feature of WhatsApp is making headlines all over the web. The developers of WhatsApp are continuously testing this feature with regards to the quality of calls, network coverage and compatibility on different operating systems.

The testing phase of the voice-calling feature on WhatsApp began on February 1, 2015. It rolled out voice calls for only selected numbers and surprised many users. pradnesh07, a registered reddit user reported about this update of WhatsApp, by posting the screenshots of the voice calls.

However, recent reports state that the voice calling feature was silently introduced on all Android handsets for few hours. The voice calling feature was rolled out only to those Android phones with an upgraded 2.11.528 version of WhatsApp.

On receiving the feature, one can call his/her friends for free. And if your opposite contact has the older version, WhatsApp notifies your friend to update it.This surprise from WhatsApp was likely to test the functionality of voice calls on 2G and 3G network. As this feature is still under the testing mode, WhatsApp has presently disabled it.

WhatsApp hasn’t globally announced the availability of this feature yet. But the test versions of the voice calling feature on WhatsApp confirms the introduction of  voice calls soon .
