Mysuru’s big day: Yaduveer adoption today
Maharani Pramoda Devi explains procedure to next king
Mysuru: With the ‘royal’ adoption set for Monday, the Mysuru Palace was buzzing with activity on Sunday with curiosity building up among the general public, who are waiting to have a first look at their next maharaja Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs.
Sources in the royal family told Deccan Chronicle that Maharani Pramoda Devi had a long chat with Yaduveer at her residential portion in Mysuru Palace explaining to him the adoption procedure, rituals and other technicalities.
Yaduveer, who came to Mysuru Saturday afternoon, is reportedly staying in the Palace. On Sunday, when this correspondent caught-up with him, he shared pleasantries. He was dressed casually wearing a T-shirt and jeans like any other 22-year-old.
In the evening, Yaduveer went to his grandfather Madan Gopal Raj Urs’ residence in Lakshmipuram here, where his parents Swarup Anand and Tripurasundari performed arthiakshathe ritual, which means a send-off to their son Yaduveer, thereby making him eligible for adoption. Many royal family members attended the ritual and wished Yaduveer good luck.
Swarup Anand said as part of the adoption he and his wife have to fast after sunset on Sunday till the adoption is over on Monday. “I, my wife and Maharani, who are involved in the adoption, will be fasting”.
Asked whether Chaduranga Kanthraj Urs will attend the adoption ceremony, Swarup Anand said he was hopeful that Mr. Kanthraj will attend. Ms. Pramoda Devi who was present said no one will stop Kanthraj from attending the ceremony or question him.
