‘Money has to be allocated to fix roads’
BMRCL is dealing with project that cost over 10,000 crore
What should be done to fix the roads near metro sites?
There has to be some cost sharing method to address these issues. BMRCL is dealing with project that cost over 10,000 crore, they can easily allocate some amount to fix the road near the metro construction sites. BBMP has its own share of problems so it is incumbent on BNRCL to fix them. Look at the road and pavements near most metro stations, they are in a pathetic condition due to the movement of huge machinery. Besides, public cannot be put to inconvenience due to various projects. Until the project is done, some temporary arrangements has to be made and for that some money has to be allocated.
What is the major problem in fixing these roads?
Lack of coordination among the agencies is the main issue and they themselves admit. They need to make a conscious effort to conduct bi-weekly meetings and create a data sharing platform. They come together only when the ministers come and then they refrain from talking to each other.
Do you think we need more involvement of citizens?
There are social and civic experts who have been pointing out the issues with solutions. But we need an efficient implementing agency with a monitoring committee. The problem is that the mechanism is not geared up to address these issues. We need to take the efficiency to a different level.
