New Delhi: In a shocking case of ragging in the Delhi University, a student of DU’s Central Institute of Education (CIE) has alleged that a senior in same institute had ragged him. Sanjay Kumar Shah alleged that a senior, Lalit Kumar, had passed unparliamentary comments on him for several days before physically assaulting him on February 19. Shah alleged that Kumar had been mentally harassing him from the past few days by making abusive comments, which were full of hate and derogatory.

“But I did not took these comments seriously. Things turned nasty on February 19, on the institute’s sports day. That day while practising, he mocked me and I asked him not to do so. After that, things went ugly when outside the department premises I was beaten up and abused by him,” said Shah, a B.Ed student at the department.

After the incident, on February 21, he lodged a written complaint to head of department, Sadhna Saxena, and has also forwarded his complaint to the DU vice-chancellor, Prof. Dinesh Singh and to the university’s proctor.

Shah, also the president of the CIE students’ union, said that a a written complaint had submitted to the head of his department and had also forwarded it to concerned authorities in the university.

“Since I am from a small town, I was not aware that I was being ragged. I thought that’s how seniors behave. But when things went to physical assault, I could not take it any more and I decided to take the matter to authorities,” added Shah.
